Crispin and Rowan Puppies - Week 4 August 2018

Puppies are growing like weeds this week! This is the age where they start to be a whole bunch of fun.  They're starting the explore the world around them, so we do our best to expose them to as many new sights and sounds as we can.  They've played with lots of new toys this week and have done a bit of retrieving.  They've spent some time in the dog hut, have run around the deck and the yard and spend most of their day running around...and BARKING!

Crispin and Rowan Puppies Week 3 August 2018

This week, puppies are really starting to be fun.  Their eyes are open, they can hear and they're starting to motor about.  We had one escapee from the whelping box (a little boy).  Today's adventure was to come upstairs to the kitchen and experience new floor surface, new noises and a bit of an expanded space.  Oh yes, and toys and duck wings too!

Crispin and Rowan puppies - first nail trims

This weekend, the whelping box got a good cleaning and while puppies were out, they  got their  nails done for the first time.  As you can see, eyes are starting to open, puppies are starting to hear and they're starting to become very mobile.  And with mobility, comes BARKING!

Crispin and Rowan puppies Week 2 August 2018

The lighting in the whelping box isn't fantastic, so a couple of babies went outside for a photo op.  Crispin wasn't overly impressed with me taking them from the box, but they were quite relaxed about the whole thing, so she got over it.  The blonder puppy is the boy.  The darker puppy is the girl.  You'll see she has the patented Rowan-puppy "kiss me here" spot.  There are a bunch of those that have shown up.  As puppy heads get bigger, the spot gets smaller, but they're pretty darned cute.

Crispin and Rowan Puppies Week 1 July 2018

Starting to crawl

Can't see, can't hear, but my nose can find my mommy!

Basket full of babies

We sound like a flock of seagulls!

Here are a few shots of the puppies from their first week.  Everyone is doing really well.  Every puppy has doubled their weight since birth and they're starting to be quite active.  Crispin keeps them moving around the whelping box.  She deliberately will lay in one end of the box, which forces the puppies to move to the other end to find her.  It's her way of making them active and mobile.  At this stage of life, puppies don't do much but eat and sleep - which gives us time to recover from whelping day!
